Don loaded his van with fabric samples and pulled out to head across town. A very rich client wanted to re-upholster all of the couches and chairs in her house for the second time in two years, and Don was not going to question her decision. Sure, furniture he made lasted twenty years, but when she would pay top dollar, he would give her the latest style. Maybe with this he'd finally be able to retire. 

He didn't think about the infrastructure about him as he pulled onto the I-5. Cameras watched every road and most new cars had cameras to allow the growing autopilot network to operate as a vast, interconnected network. And all of this was run by Eigenweasels. A quirky nickname for quantum supercomputers, they used thermal annealing to solve arrays of quadratic optimization equations that made even mathematicians raise an eyebrow. And they did it fast.

Don got up to speed and felt a twinge of what he thought was just heartburn. It wasn't, but he was focused on the job. The Eigenweasels were focused on him and the other million or so cars clogging the roads around him. They noticed him swerve a bit out of his lane and flagged him to observe. When he swerved again, they analyzed his motions and determined his driving pattern was one of a few options, including inebriation or medical emergency. The next swerve narrowed it further to a medical emergency.

Don's phone rang, located by the Eigenweasels, and he was connected to a crisis worker.

"Please pull over. We received a notification that you may be having a medical emergency."

Don was stunned. He was feeling pretty lousy. His mind was cluttered, and his arm hurt. The crisis worker talked to him until the ambulance came. 

"Ma'am, I can't miss this appointment," Don explained.

The crisis worker took the client's information and called for him, explaining the situation. Don would have a chance to make the sale after his emergency stint was put in.

The Eigenweasels watched without rest as the ambulance took him safely to the hospital.
