Terry juggled his coffee cup with his laptop and phone into one hand so he could pull out his keys. The phone buzzed and blared a loud klaxon alarm as he unlocked his car, nearly making him drop his phone. He tossed his laptop bag in the back, set his coffee cup on the roof, and tried to silence his phone.
“Medical Alert - Mary Amarosa”
He swore and tapped on the alert. He'd paid for his grandmother to have a fancy smart watch and filled her house with cameras that privately fed the quantum supercomputers, nicknamed Eigenweasels. His grandmother was suffering from early dementia and still wanted to live on her own, but he wanted to keep her safe.
“Mary Amarosa is confused as to where she is and is searching for her keys.”
Terry tapped on the phone icon and called. “Hey grandma, how you doing?”
“Oh, Terry, I'm so glad you called.” Mary sighed. “I can't seem to find my keys. I need to head to the store.”
“Don't you worry about that, grandma.” Terry thought over his schedule and sighed. Work could wait. Grandma needed him. “You don't remember? I was picking you up so we could go together?”
“I had forgotten. You're sure you're not too busy at work?”
Terry reassured his grandmother and kept her on the phone while he drove across town to her. Even as they spoke, the Eigenweasels continued to monitor her status. Each second, they evaluated her heart rate, blood pressure, steps, and overall body language. The Eigenweasels gave her a chance to keep her independence a little longer.
